Who needs jaw surgery?
Surgical orthodontic treatment is a good option for adult patients whose jaws have stopped growing. We will only recommend surgery if we think it is the best option for your smile.

Not all orthodontic issues can be treated with just braces and aligners. Some patients need a little extra help to achieve their dream smile, and for those patients we offer surgical treatment in conjunction with braces.
Surgical orthodontic treatment, also called orthognathic surgery, is a surgery that improves the alignment of your jaws. The surgery can also improve your ability to speak, chew, and breathe, and can help you create a beautiful facial symmetry.
When your jaws are adjusted, your teeth move too. That’s why surgical orthodontic treatment is always done in conjunction with braces to ensure your teeth are aligned properly after surgery.

Prior to your surgery, you will start treatment with braces. Initially, as your teeth begin to move, your bite may appear to worsen. However, following surgery to align your jaws, your teeth will be correctly positioned.
An oral surgeon will perform your jaw surgery in a hospital setting. During the procedure, they will reposition your lower jaw, upper jaw, or other facial bones as required. The surgery typically lasts several hours.
Many patients can resume school or work within two weeks, although complete recovery from jaw surgery typically spans 4-8 weeks. Once you've recuperated, we will refine your smile using braces, a process that generally takes 6-12 months.
